Christmas Decorating Tips for a Cozy, Stylish TV Console

The living room is the heart of the home, especially during the Christmas season. While the tree often takes center stage, the TV console quietly anchors the entire space, and when styled with intention, it becomes a beautiful focal point all its own. This year, I wanted our console to feel natural, warm, and softly festive, with just enough glow to make the evenings feel magical.

What I ended up creating was simple but so inviting: layered juniper garland draped across the front, warm white lights on a timer, and two elegant candle moments (one on each side) balanced with tree decorations in varying sizes. Whether you want inspiration or you’re trying to figure out how to style your own TV console this season, here’s a guide to creating a cozy, collected Christmas look that feels effortlessly at home.

Start With the Foundation: A Natural Juniper Garland

The base of any beautiful Christmas console is the greenery. This year, I used a juniper garland, which instantly added a natural, woodland-inspired look that feels understated but still festive. Juniper has a soft, wispy texture that brings depth without requiring extra embellishments.

My console was long enough that I actually needed two garlands, so I layered them together. This created a fuller, more dimensional look—one that feels lush without being overpowering. Layering greenery is one of my favorite styling tricks because it adds visual richness while still looking organic.

Instead of placing the garland flat on top of the console, I draped it across the front. This softens all the straight lines of the TV and media cabinet and gives the whole space a welcoming, slightly whimsical feeling. It also brings the greenery closer into view, creating a more immersive Christmas moment in the room.

Add a Glow: Lights on a Timer

To bring the juniper to life, I wrapped a strand of warm white Christmas lights through the garland and set them on a timer. This is one of my favorite holiday hacks - your home gets that cozy evening glow automatically, without you having to remember a thing.

The lights peek through the juniper just enough to catch your eye, creating a soft sparkle that pairs beautifully with the candles on each end of the console. Between the warm light and the natural greenery, the whole display feels calm, cozy, and gently festive.

If you want an effortless, welcoming Christmas look, lighting is key. It’s the quickest way to make a console feel magical at night.

Keep the Center Calm and Let the Sides Shine

When decorating around a TV, balance matters. The TV already acts as a visual anchor, so it’s important not to clutter the space beneath it. I kept the center of my console open, letting the garland be the only decorative piece that crosses the midpoint.

This creates a clean break visually and keeps the console from feeling overwhelmed. Instead, I focused my styling on each side, allowing the left and right edges to shine with intentional, warm displays.

Create Two Anchoring Moments With Candlelight

On each end of the console, I placed one main decorative grouping. These act as “anchor points” and keep the styling symmetrical in weight while still feeling relaxed and natural.

Left Side: Lantern With Candle

On one side, I used a beautiful lantern with a candle inside. The lantern adds height and structure, and the candle brings that soft, golden light that makes the whole room feel inviting. The shape of the lantern contrasts nicely with the organic flow of the juniper garland.

Right Side: Hurricane Glass With Candle

On the opposite side, I placed a hurricane glass with a candle. A hurricane glass is always an elegant choice because the transparency reflects the candlelight, giving off a warm glow that feels delicate and magical. It also creates a visual echo of the lantern without matching it, which keeps the design from feeling too rigid.

These two pieces work beautifully together because they share similar height and presence, but they aren’t identical - creating balance without being too matchy.

Use Decorations in Varying Sizes for Natural Visual Interest

This year, I avoided adding lots of small decorative items. Instead, I let the varying sizes of the main decorations create the interest. The lantern, hurricane glass, and tree decorations all have different heights and shapes, which naturally gives the console depth.

The tree decorations, each slightly different in size, add a festive touch while keeping the look clean and uncluttered. Because each piece is intentionally sized and thoughtfully placed, the console feels curated rather than crowded.

The different heights also keep the eye moving from side to side, making the display feel balanced and visually engaging.

Embrace the “Less Is More” Approach

Sometimes we think holiday decorating means adding more… and more… and more. But often, the most beautiful spaces come from restraint. By using:

  • lush juniper garland

  • warm lighting

  • two intentional candle displays

  • and tree decorations in varying sizes

…you create a look that feels full, elegant, and festive without overwhelming the space.

This approach also makes the console feel peaceful, a quality that’s often overlooked during the busyness of the season. When your home feels calm, you feel calm. And there’s something special about creating beauty without clutter.

Play With Texture to Make the Space Feel Cozy

Though the overall styling is simple, the textures are what make the display shine:

  • The juniper garland brings in softness and natural movement.

  • The glass from the lantern and hurricane vase adds reflective glow.

  • The candles offer warm, flickering light.

  • The tree decorations introduce shape and height without heaviness.

Mixing these textures creates a layered, cozy feeling that draws people in. Even without lots of accessories, these materials work together to make the console feel intentionally decorated.

Let Lighting Set the Mood

As evening falls, the magic of this setup really comes alive. The lights on the juniper garland turn on automatically, filling the space with a soft, warm glow. The candles cast their gentle flickering light, reflecting off the glass and adding depth to the room.

This combination of subtle lighting is what makes this console feel so serene and inviting. It creates a moment in your home—a moment of calm, warmth, and quiet joy.

A Christmas Console That Feels Like Home

At the end of the day, your TV console doesn’t need to be complicated to be beautiful. A carefully chosen garland, soft lighting, balanced décor on each side, and thoughtful use of height and texture can completely transform the space.

This year’s setup feels like exactly what I wanted: natural, warm, elegant, and welcoming. It’s festive without being fussy. Cozy without being cluttered. And most importantly, it reflects the heart of our home - graceful, peaceful, and full of intentional beauty.

If you're looking to refresh your holiday décor, let this be your encouragement: with just a few well-chosen pieces, you can create a console that brings joy every time you walk into the room.
